Sailor Mars:Hino Rei/Raye

Japanese bio | North American bio | Other Notes & Info | Pictures

The fire rages and burns, and Sailor Mars arrives with a little more in mind than just a sting.

In Japan...

Hino Rei is a young lady with a temper. She is angered easily and can do something about it by threatening to kill, which is possible. There is a good side, though. Rei is sweet and understanding and doesn’t take matters lightly.

One of her personal comforts is the sacred flame of her Shinto religion. It never stops burning and is a guiding light in Rei’s life. She is currently learning to be a priestess, and wishes school would end so she could help out at her grandfather’s temple better. The religion she follows has disciplined her well; Rei can communicate with the fire and sense when things are going wrong. Also, Rei has learned martial arts from her grandfather, which aides her short fuse.

To Usagi’s dismay, Rei is a control freak. If it’s not done her way, it won’t make her completely happy. They both fight constantly because the both of them start it. One minute they’re friends, the next they’re at each others' throats. But that’s how Rei is; her good and bad points are evenly balanced. Her compassion and love for good gives Hino Rei the strength she needs.

As Sailormars, controller of fire, she is powerful. Her command over the flame gives her a cutting edge over her opponents. Mars is a good Senshi who uses her brain as well as her strength. She was second to return after Sailormoon, and like Sailormercury, saved the day upon arrival. Using an ignited ball of fire as her first attack, Sailormars has always made the odds even.

In North America...

Raye Hino lives at the Cherry Hill Temple. She trains to be a Shinto priestess there with her odd grandfather, and is very intent on keeping the old temple in good condition. When a newcomer came to work at the temple, his perfect sales pitch was bringing customers to buy good luck charms there. Then, a certain bus filled with buyers in a trance disappeared. It happened several times until the Sailor Scouts looked into it.

Thinking more of fun than duty, Serena came with Amy to investigate. Unfortunately, Raye sensed her power and thought her to be evil. Slapping her with a paper charm, Raye met Serena. A little while later, the leader of the Sailor Scouts recovered from the blow. After a talk, the two left. On the ground Raye found a strange and beautiful stick.

At the second attempt, Serena went on the bus to follow wherever the people were disappearing to. She found that they crossed into another dimension and were drained of energy. Raye also appeared, Jaedite having sent her there. Thankfully, Luna knew what to do when trouble came along and Sailor Moon couldn’t handle it.

Using the stick she found, Raye transformed into Sailor Mars. Using a power she didn’t know she had, Mars destroyed the monster. The only problem was that they had no way to get back to their own dimension. Mercury used her powers to keep the gateway open while Tuxedo Mask appeared to drive all the people back. That’s when Raye finally spotted him, and Sailor Moon felt challenged.

Raye and her supposed new leader are perfect enemies. One foul word and they’re ready to kill each other. But despite all their bickering and complaining, the two are also good friends. If Serena’s down, Raye’s there for her. She’s not heartless just because she gets angry a lot. Raye is unique and makes a nice addition to the team.
